+1 for the Upcycling Bandwagon, Sweater Pillow

31 Dec

I spent my week working and cleaning my house, so this weekend I plan on watching Bones on Netflix and making stuff. First up was French Toast made with some Panettone which was awesome. Then I went to get the clothes out of the dryer, and found I had completely destroyed a pillow I tried to wash. Well not completely,  it was just lumpy.

So I took this pillow, and this sweater:

My sewing machine is packed up, so the only other tools needed were pins and a needle, thread, and scissors. Turn the sweater inside out, pin it along an imaginary line just below the neckline parallel with the waist of the sweater. Backstitch along this line- and again 1/2″ above this line for extra strength and to keep the knit from unraveling. Then cut off the arms and neck, flip it rightside out.

Next I opened up the pillow, refluffed the fluff, and backstiched it together again – resizing it to fit my sweater pillow. Then stuff the pillow, and stitch up the open end, just under the roll of what used to be the waist of the sweater- the rolled fabric covers the stiches.

Finished project, completed for free, in just under one episode of Bones:

Next I made a cheesecake. Most productive craft and baking day in a loooooong time.
